On a large industrial roof, the gutters carry an enormous volume of water. When they split, corrode or block, that water does not just overflow outside, it tracks back into the building, soaking insulation, running down internal walls and dripping onto whatever is stored below. Failing gutters are one of the most common causes of internal leaks we are called to.

Gutter lining and refurbishment

In many cases a failing gutter does not need to be torn out and replaced. We can line existing gutters in situ with a seamless, waterproof membrane system that bridges splits and corroded sections and restores reliable drainage, without the disruption of removing the gutter and the surrounding roof sheets.

Where a gutter is too far gone, or the falls are wrong, we replace it. We will tell you which approach makes sense for your building.

Common gutter problems we fix

  • Splits and corrosion at joints and along the gutter sole
  • Blocked outlets and downpipes causing standing water and overflow
  • Failed joints and seals on bolted or jointed gutter systems
  • Ponding caused by inadequate falls or structural movement

Get ahead of winter

Gutter problems are seasonal in their consequences, a marginal gutter copes in summer and then fails in the first heavy autumn rain. The time to deal with them is before the wet season, when access can be planned and the work is preventative rather than an emergency call-out.

Why industrial gutters fail

Large box and valley gutters carry water from a huge catchment area, and they work hardest exactly when the weather is worst. Over time the joints in bolted systems work loose, the protective finish wears off the gutter sole and corrosion sets in, and debris, moss and windblown leaves build up around the outlets. Once the falls are compromised, water ponds, freezes and accelerates the decay. Because the gutter often sits behind a parapet or below the roof line, this damage is out of sight until it shows up as a stain on an internal wall.

Part of a planned refurbishment

Gutter work is frequently combined with cut edge corrosion treatment and other refurbishment tasks during a single access visit, keeping costs down.
